Cold runner systems are designed to save time and money by injecting directly into the part. With conventional runner systems there is some portion of the material wasted that goes into the runner. Unlike plastic, silicone cannot be recycled once it has cured. Depending on the specifics of a mold, it is not uncommon for a cold runner system to pay for itself within a year, based on waste material savings alone.
